Following on from a decision by the Board and Senior Executive of the then Daughters of Charity Disability Support Services (now Avista CLG) to transfer community-based housing to a new Approved Housing Body, Marillac Housing Association was established in 2017. This decision was taken following the recommendations in the 2011 Time to Move On report together with recommendations by HIQA to separate housing and service delivery functions.

As at the end of 2022, a total of 39 community-based group homes are under the management and control of Marillac who will manage and maintain them into the future. These properties are located in counties Dublin, Offaly, Tipperary and Limerick. Marillac currently has 145 tenants whose tenancies are registered with the Residential Tenancies Board.

Marillac works closely with the Executive and Staff of Avista CLG who provide the day-to-day support to Marillac’s tenants enabling them to live independently and fulfil their tenant obligations.

Marillac also works closely with the Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage and local authorities to secure funding to develop additional housing stock to meet the needs of people living with intellectual disability who have a social housing need.

During 2023 Marillac will complete the transfer of a further 22 community-based group homes which will come under its management and control and commence a further 90 tenancies approximately. Marillac is also currently engaged in a number of new housing projects around the country with the support of the Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage. Marillac is committed to meeting the new challenges of statutory regulation and supporting the Decongregation Strategy of Avista CLG which is a key target under Housing for All.
