Development & Acquisition

One of Marillac’s key strategic goals is to support Avista in their goal to progress the seamless and supported transition of people from campus based to community-based settings. This Decongregation strategy is in line with the Time to Move on from Congregated Settings and Sláintecare. It is also a key objective under Housing for All and the National Housing Strategy for Disabled People 2022 – 2027.

Development and acquisition of new properties to house disabled individuals tends to be a single property or at a maximum two properties due to the requirement to avoid any clustering of dwellings in a single location. Achieving economies of scale therefore can be a challenge however Marillac is fully committed to achieving Value for Money when delivering housing.

Acquisition of second-hand single dwellings in already established residential neighbourhoods, new construction as part of other mixed tenure developments or one-off construction on green field or in-fill sites is the favoured approach. This avoids clustering but also ensures that disabled people are living in integrated communities and close to services and local networks.

Marillac utilises various funding streams available from the Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage including CAS (Capital Assistance Scheme), CALF (Capital Advance Leasing Facility) and P&A (Payment & Availability) Agreements to develop its housing. Because the needs of our tenants can change quickly, our properties often require adaption and extension. Marillac supports its tenants to also avail of the Adaptation Grant administered by Local Authorities.
