Our Housing

Marillac’s housing is located across four counties – Dublin, Offaly, Tipperary and Limerick. Most of Marillac’s housing takes the form of multi-occupancy dwellings, sometimes referred to as “Group Homes” or “Community Dwelling Houses”. Marillac’s properties, while standard domestic dwellings in residential neighbourhoods, are often extended and can be larger than the average domestic dwelling. Depending on the needs of our tenants, many of our properties are fully wheelchair accessible.

An average of four individual tenants/single households live in each of our properties with each tenant having their own private room/unit with shared communal spaces for which we, the landlord have responsibility for maintaining. Because most of our tenants require full-time support to live independently, most of our properties are also HIQA registered centres which imposes a higher burden of repair and maintenance particularly in relation to fire detection and prevention. We also provide a caretaker or sleepover room/office in each of our dwellings for support staff.

Marillac currently has 40 dwellings in its management and control with just under 150 tenants and is currently undertaking the acquisition of a further 22 dwellings. This will increase our tenancies to approximately 230 when completed. Marillac is also currently engaged in a number of new housing projects around the country with the support of the Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage.

Asset Management is a key strategic function of the organisation. We have identified the following as our key Asset Management activities:

Marillac operates in a sector which is subject to statutory and regulatory oversight. The strategic approach we adopt in managing our housing stock into the future is one of the organisation’s greatest priorities. We are guided by our Asset Management Strategy which ensures that our housing stock is maintained in the long term which will make it attractive as security for lending purposes to allow us to grow and develop into the future.
